WELCOME
On behalf of the Organizing Committee, we are pleased to invite you to attend the “Symposium on aerogels for biomedical applications”, to be held on 7th September 2021, in Porto, Portugal.
The symposium will be held in the scope of the 31st Conference of the European Society for Biomaterials (ESB), also in Porto (from 5th to 9th September), which has as a motto “development of biomaterial through advanced technologies, such as Nanotechnology, Biofabrication, Microfluidics and Bioimaging”, giving the opportunity to establish networking with the biomaterials community.
AIMS & SCOPE
Aerogels are unique nanostructured porous materials with special properties adapted to fit certain advanced applications. Namely, aerogel-based materials can be used in biomedical applications such as drug carriers, synthetic bone grafts for regenerative medicine and advanced wound dressings.
Advances on aerogels and other nanostructured materials in these fields need to assemble expertise from interdisciplinary and intersectorial domains. Technological developments in terms of novel designs, processes, modelling tools, characterization techniques and uses for aerogels should be aligned to boost the progresses on the topic.
This symposium aims at assembling and integrating the most recent scientific-technological knowledge in aerogels and other nanostructured materials on a wide range of fundamental topics and particularly applied in biomedical applications.
Networking among symposium and ESB conference participants will be favored through coffee and meal breaks, poster sessions and sponsor booths. Finally, early-career investigators (ECIs, i.e. PhD students and young postdoctoral scientists) will have specific sessions within the programme to give more visibility to their research.
Participants are invited to submit high quality research works on several topics of interest including, but not restricted to, the following areas:
- Processing and evaluation of aerogels for pharmaceutical applications;
- Processing and evaluation of aerogels in regenerative medicine;
- Processing and evaluation of aerogels in wound treatment;
- Processing and evaluation of aerogels in cosmetics;
- Processing and evaluation of aerogels for nutraceutical applications,
- Other nanostructured materials (hydrogels, functional nanoparticles, dendrimers, zeolites, MOFs…) for biomedical applications.
